Constant once had yet another restaurant — a fish restaurant — next to the fontaine called Fables de La Fontaine , but later sold that to two young chefs who managed to garner a Michelin star, only to lose it the next year. The jewel in Constant's mini-empire, as far as we're concerned, is Le Violon d'Ingres , his Michelin-starred upscale restaurant. It's a long narrow space with the kitchen way at the back. We've gone here for lunch, dinner, and even New Years Eve and it's always been a delight.
The atmosphere is convivial and the cooking is superb. In short, a pleasurable time can be had for a price that is surprisingly low for a Michelin restaurant. If you linger after lunch service ends you may get a chance to see the staff unroll a long carpet up the center of the dining room for the delivery carts that wheel in supplies for dinner. Chef Constant is known for having been mentor to a number of then-young chefs who, 30 years ago, created a new, simpler, hearty cuisine in restaurants like La Regalade , Chez Michel , and L'Os a Moelle.
The cooking at Le Violon d'Ingres is more elegant than that of his disciples. On Rue Cler you can see the best-dressed shoppers in Paris perusing the bounty of the butchers, bakers, poissonniers , fromagers, and wine merchants that line this cobblestone street. Davoli, La Maison du Jambon , is a feast for your eyes with Parma hams hanging from the ceiling and jolly, rosy-cheeked butchers serving up a selection of mouthwatering sausages and meats.
Arrive early if you want to grab a seat and then order a confit de canard, le hamburger , or classic roast chicken with the creamiest mashed potatoes you've ever had the pleasure of eating. The small-group tour also visits Reims, the capital of Champagne country.
Once a magnificent turn-of-the-twentieth-century train station, it was transformed in into a showcase for 19th-century art and culture. The d'Orsay's collection starts where the Louvre ends at Romanticism and goes up to the birth of modern art, for which you need to visit the Pompidou.
Where else but Paris would the sewers be a popular underground attraction? The 1, mile network of tunnels was built during the reign of Napoleon III and is one of city planner Baron Haussmann's top achievements. The underground labyrinth that Haussmann built houses outgoing sewage lines and freshwater pipes, and also contain the city's gas lines as well as a pneumatic postal network, a service which only ceased in You used to be able to take underground boat cruises through the sewers, but a string of bank robberies, using the sewers as an escape route, put a stop to the cruises.
Today there are guided walking tours of parts of the sewers. This relative newcomer to the Paris museum scene has been open since Here you find outstanding collections of African, Asian, Oceania and native American arts and civilizations. There are always special exhibitions — on things like folk art, on the presentation of human forms in native art, and recently on primitive influences in the work of Picasso.
Quai Branly also has a tranquil patio where you can take a break and enjoy a drink or a light lunch. No list of the attractions of the 7th Arrondissement can be complete without the most recognized symbol of Paris — the enduring Eiffel Tower.

There are gourmet items from all over the world. Calling all foodies to the 7th arrondissement. The 7th arrondissement has four iconic fromageries. Anne Cantin close to rue Cler is high on my list to visit. In existence since and its current location since , Deyrolle is a natural history museum, taxidermy shop and as they call themselves, a cabinet of curiosities.
Head upstairs to find the real cabinet of curiosities. Small and large animals are all frozen in time, waiting to be studied. Entomologists will be in heaven. And then there are sea creatures, butterflies and moths, poultry, shells and fossils.
The sign indicating that these animals were not hunted to be stuffed but come from zoological reserves, will help the animal lovers breathe a little. True to the Art Nouveau style, it has a flowing form and plenty of floral and vegetal design.
It is purely whimsical and a joy to look at while appreciating its intricate details! Another building by Lavirotte is just around the corner at 3 Square Rapp where you will also find a secret and fabulous view of the Eiffel Tower.
Here are more art nouveau buildings to discover in Paris. The voice she heard told her to have a medal made. For those who wear it with confidence, there will be abundant grace. What struck me was the effect this Serge Gainsbourg hit had on the entire audience.
People of every age stopped their chattering and sang. Little did I know that living in the staid and aristocratic 7th arrondissement that I was neighbours with Serge. Or at least, his home. The stone wall outside the courtyard facing street side is a living tribute to Serge Gainsbourg.
Spray painted representations of Gainsbourg will stop any curious bypasser or dedicated fan in their steps. Take photos. The images change often.
