But why need a permit in the first place? And besides, why is alcohol taxed to begin with? That is the real question we need to be asking ourselves. Well you do the records so you can get certain things back. The state will want to know how much you use on the highway, because there is a road tax to supposedly keep our bridges and roads in good condition.
If you dont produce any alcohol, you just need to let them know so they dont have to give you anything back. Getting the permit isnt difficult, and I agree why bother with all the BS around it. The fact remains that is how it is, and if you want to stay out of jail, do what you need to do and avoid the things you shouldn't do.
Alcohol has been taxed since the beginning of our country, usually for the benefit of some with a detriment to many, its a political thing. At least we can do it, because it wasnt that long ago people would get hauled to jail and before a judge just for having a still, even if it was never used to make alcohol. Small steps, change what you can, and dont worry about some inconvenience or paper work. If we continue down this road, and nobody decides to outright ban it again, things will eventually get better.
If I can get it a bit warmer around here, my first batch of the year will be underway. Right now the temperature varies too much for my limited means to do the conversion, I tend to stop the enzyme with too much heat when it warms up a few degrees.
I would rather not use propane or firewood to run it all too, so I need the biogas plant working first. Its a big jump going from 1 gallon yield to a 5 or ten gallon yield from a batch run.
Yes we will be running E, and I wont say what I am using to denature it, but you sure dont want to drink that stuff. What is the year and model of the FFV you are proposing using it in? However you will run into starting problems if the temp is below around 60F. The original Ford FFV test fleets were designed for M and E98, depending of the location in the country, but to get them to reliably start read start like any other FI rig even in CA, they needed fuel and block heaters.
Once the Canadian test fleet was done it became painfully aparent that E98 just wouldn't work well in that climate, shut down away from a outlet for a length of time and restarting was difficult.
That is why we have E85 for the production vehicles. A block heater was also included as part of the package on those early Ford FFV's. So yes select vehicles will recognize E and the computer won't have an issue with it, but cold starting will be a problem in all but the warmest weather. I haven't messed with a newer than 00 Taurus FFV, but I have seen them under the rig on Every Ranger with the green leaf on the tailgate, and the 4. However, these numbers are based on ethanol refineries using recycled wood chips instead of coal — perhaps a large leap of faith.
Not so fast. Burning E85 still releases pollutants; permeation emissions fuel soaking through the pipes of a car and tailpipe emissions. Similarly, cars made before will be worse than those made after The Union of Concerned Scientists states:. But the worst ethanol can significantly increase lifecycle global warming pollution compared to gasoline.
Calculating lifecycle emissions is problematic land use changes are often not taken into account i. Using corn to produce ethanol while there are people in the world going hungry could be seen as a wasteful approach ; however, cellulosic ethanol is made from inedible substances and can be grown anywhere in the world — so does have pretty good environmental credentials.
This is a pretty costly exercise. You could also go electric or hybrid to save money at the pumps and decrease your carbon footprint — search our range of electric vehicles for inspiration. Using up the dregs from a wild party won't work, unfortunately. And then there's the question where to get it. I have never seen it anywhere, but it would be cool.
Google it -- There are a couple of vendors that sell drums of different variations of ethanol based fuel. It's already difficult enough to find E85 out of a pump, so I can't imagine how rare it is to come across a station with E Originally Posted by LivnLife What gas station is that with E? I buy E98 by the drum All times are GMT The time now is PM. User Name. Mark Forums Read. Page 1 of 2. Thread Tools. Anyone mixing with E instead of E85? Appreciate 0 Tweet. Find More Posts by HifiSyd.
